America: 31st May 2017

First thing today we Skyped Alex which was nice. He had an interview today so I hope things go well for him.
Sabine and I joined a 'Postdoc Lunch' meet-up group that belongs to the university. We met a nice lot of people who enjoy the group as a social gathering. They do this lunch once a month but also do other things outside like hiking, which is right down our street! We would love to attend such things! They said they have a hike this coming Saturday however we shall see. Sabine starts work tomorrow and has no idea if she will end up working Saturday.
We also met 'the Australian guy' who Sabine was contacting for a few months already, who initially helped us regarding information about the Toscana apartment. Talking of which, we never heard back from them. We should have done by now.
Just before the lunch thingy, Sabine went to her office and met up with Christie, the lady who drove us to Walmart that day. She was explaining how Irvine is governed by "The Irvine family", people who historically own all of Irvine 'ranch' but rented off land to developers. Because they literally own Irvine, they decide what comes and goes within the area. Including NO McDonalds, KFC, Burger King etc. however I think she said there was one Pizza Hutt. They also own all of the Irvine Company rental apartments, hence the monopoly where they can charge the earth.
After the lunch we didn't do much. Sabine had an interview with Australia at 4:15pm and I went to the park around the back and listened to Blur's Modern Life Is Rubbish on my phone whilst playing Pokemon.
When she was done we went to Albertsons for bread and milk then came home to cook dinner. Mince and veg tonight with a bit of spaghetti.
Did I mention already how you don't hear rubbish music in general? Whenever you hear music its usually in supermarkets, and they always seem to play good indie songs from the 70's and 80's. There doesn't seem to be any 'Heart FM' type songs playing anywhere. Pretty good stuff to be honest. A breath of fresh air.
Sabine starts work tomorrow so things will go into a real routine from now on, probably not worthy of posting a blog entry every day. We'll see.
